Set your foot at the bottom heart of Annapurna Base Camp where you are surrounded by snow and many 8000m peaks.

Annapurna Sanctuary Trek

Annapurna Sanctuary Trek features one of the best mountain scenery in Nepal. It combines both panoramic views of the Annapurna mountain range from the top of Poon Hill and close-up views at it when you set your foot at the bottom heart of Annapurna Base Camp.

The climb to the base camp (also known as Annapurna Sanctuary Trek) passes through a variety of terrain, including Gurung settlements, thick bamboo, and rhododendron forests, and then into high river valleys.

In base camp, Trekkers are surrounded on all sides by magnificent snow-capped mountains such as Annapurna I (8,091m), Annapurna South (7,219m) to the north, and Hiunchuli (6,441 m), and the iconic peak of Machhapuchhare (6,993 m), known as Fishtail.

I had a tiring but enjoyable journey. The scenery is truly lovely, magnificent, and brilliant, with snow-capped mountains surrounding Base camp from only 4140m in height. Looking around is an unforgettable experience in itself. The trek was extremely exhausting, but when I arrived at the base camp, I felt it was well worth it because seeing one day is equivalent to the ten-day journey combined. The crew of Top1Trekking is adorable, patient, and genuinely enthusiastic about the progress of a slow trekker like me.

We had a fantastic trip to ABC with Top1Trekking in October 2019. They provided not only the most excellent service during our journey but also before and after it. Our two guides and 12 porters are genuinely kind, pleasant, and entirely dedicated. Highly recommended!

I left part of my heart in hidden picturesque Nepal treks, as well as kind hospitality from Top1trekking. They were terrific in assisting us with everything from booking airline tickets to suggesting trekking gear. They reminded us of working out for physical fitness by helping us get started. After that, their skilled and amusing trekking guide Bijaya took excellent care of us for ten hiking days, he was attentive and always heard our questions, and was very knowledgeable about historical locations, religions, and plants. On the way. I loved each stage of the trip, and I was completely satisfied with Top1trekking's services. There's no question that if I were offered other trekking trips, such as EBC or Upper Mustang, I would use their services again.

Trip Information

Annapurna Sanctuary Trekking Route

We started our journey from Nayapul, following the Modi River as it drains off the glacier far above the base camp, passing several villages along its way. The path is wide and well kept, particularly between Tirkhedunga and Ulleri, where local Gurungs built a staircase of more than 3,000 stone steps.

After that, the path ascends gradually through rhododendron forests to Ghorepani, a mountain pass with views of the abyssal Kali Gandaki valley sandwiched between two 8,000-meter peaks.

Morning hike to Poon Hill to witness the sunrise over the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna Himal from this bird’s eye viewpoint is undoubtedly one of the best sights within Himalaya.

Two days pass as we climb through the thick forest, where we stay at Tadapani for an early morning sunrise with Annapurna South. The cloud behind Machhapuchhare, the final settlement of the Modi Khola, reveals Chomrong, which is two days later.

Above Chomrong, the trail to Annapurna Sanctuary is zigzag up and down through bamboo and rhododendron forest then out on the rocky steep trail to Deurali with impressive Machhapuchare and Annapurna peak following you everywhere while walking. After three strenuous days, we will arrive at Machhapuchare Base Camp (3,700m/12,139ft) early in the day, take the optional hike to the hill behind the camp to see beautiful snow peaks of “queen of the mountain” miss Fish Tail.

Wake up for another morning hike to the snowfield and the edge of glacier toward Annapurna Base Camp, on the way when the first sun rays of the day drop down on the mountain changes the color of the sky from dark blue to lighter blue you just want to stop in silent and bow and when it paints the summit of Annapurna with orange color, you will find every breath is a prayer.

Variations

  • If you want to avoid repeating the same route when going down, you can take a helicopter flight from base camp to Pokhara. You get more time to chill in Annapurna Base Camp with this option.
  • The transportation from Pokhara to Kathmandu takes 8-10 hours by drive but only 1 hour by flight. Fly after the trek is a more relaxing way to end your trek.
